Tuscany, Casale Marittimo
OT Societa Agricola

In 2000, Oliviero Toscani founded his new company, OT Agricola, in Casale Marittimo, in the Tuscan hills between Montescudaio and Bolgheri straddling the provinces of Pisa and Livorno. The estate spans over 100 hectares. Apart from producing wines, Toscani also grows olive trees and breed cows and horses. The 12-hectare vineyards, located at the same altitude as those that produce Sassicaia, grow in an amphitheatre-like area, characterized by a very special soil condition. The fact that the land is poor in clay but rich in granite, combined with a total south-west exposure, enables the vineyards to yield to a complex yet fresh wine.

Toscani collaborated with leading experts in the industry such as agronomist Federico Curtaz, winemaker Attilio Pagli and legendary Piedmont producer Angelo Gaja. The grapes are harvested, vinified and honed separately. It is only after a period of 16 months in barrel and an attentive analysis of the evolution of each individual wine type that they are blended.

Oliviero Toscani is an internationally renowned Italian photographer best known for designing controversial advertising campaigns for Italian brand Benetton from 1982 to 2000. In addition, the photographer was the innovative force behind some of the world’s most successful magazines and brands, including Esprit, Valentino, Chanel, Fiorucci, Prenatal, Elle, Vogue, Uomo Vogue and GQ.

The winemaker believes the recipe of success of OT consists of a strong visual presence combined with the highest level of wine craftsmanship. Inspired by his art school principal Johannes Itten, who is also a master of color for Bauhaus, Toscani chose the first three basic colors, i.e. the cyans, magenta and yellow in the creation of OT’s label.
