Roberto Mazzi

The Mazzi family has been producing wine in Valpolicella since 1900. In 1960, after finishing his agricultural studies, Roberto Mazzi already started to bottle wine under Sanperetto, where one of the family’s vineyards is located.

The farm lies on the highest hills of Negrar, one of the five towns in the historical area of the old Valpolicella Classico Appellation, north of Verona. The vineyards are located in an excellent position on the hills of Calcolare, Castel, Poiega, Sanperetto and Villa. Along with the altitude, its calcareous soils yield elegant, seductive wines of rare balance and silky textures.

The farm is now run personally by the sons Stefano and Antonio who combine tradition with innovation to produce Valpolicella Classico Superiore, Amarone and Recioto della Valpolicella Classico. The corvina, corvinone and rondinella grapes of perfect health are selected for the production of Amarone and Recioto wines. They are dried in well ventilated rooms for three to four months to minimize risk of mould. The resulting increase in sugar which ferments allows the Amarone wine to reach at least 15% abv and have a high content of extracts and poliphenols.
